The Pro Bowl is the best of the best that the NFL has to offer. This game is made up of 84 of the best players of the year in the NFL. The first Pro Bowl game was played on January 15th 1939. The original match-up for the game was the National Football League Champion versus All Stars that were made up from the rest of the league. In 1940 and 1942 there were two games that were played. The first game was against the reigning National Championship team from the previous year, and the second game was against the newly crowned champion.
From 1943 to 1950 the Pro Bowl Series was not played and then revived in 1951. This time the teams were All Star teams from the American and National Football Conferences. From 1954 through 1970 the teams were picked from the east and west rather than from conferences. It has since reverted to picking teams from the American and National Football Conferences.
Since 1980 the NFL Pro Bowl has been played in Honolulu Hawaii at Aloha Stadium. |
